Is Sunny Kids Therapy an NPA (Nonpublic Agency)?

Yes! We are an NPA, licensed by the California Department of Education to provide specialized services to students. Contracting with us is a breeze and we operate under the guidelines of the state.

OTRL…COTA…IEP…what are all these acronyms?

Occupational Therapy: Occupations are meaningful activities that one participates in on a day-to-day basis. For children, occupations include play, school, hobbies, socializing, and activities of daily living (such as feeding, dressing, doing chores, etc). Occupational Therapy helps children gain the skills, independence, and confidence in activities to help them reach their fullest potential.

An OTRL is an Occupational Therapist who is Registered by the National Board as well as Licensed to practice in their state. All of our Occupational Therapists are Registered and Licensed in the State of California.

A COTA is a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. COTAs provide OT treatment under supervision of an OT.

An IEP Is an Individualized Education Plan that is provided by public school districts for students with special needs. At Sunny Kids Therapy, we are experts in the IEP process with experience in hundreds of IEP cases. If you have questions or concerns about your child’s IEP, please reach out to us.

What ages does Sunny Kids Therapy serve?

  • Early Intervention: Ages 0-3

  • Preschool-High School: Ages 3-22

What sort of skills can you work on in an Occupational Therapy Session?

We work on skills including but not limited to:

  • Activities of Daily Living / Self-Care: dressing, eating, chores, organizing

  • Whole Body Skills (Gross Motor): crawling, running, jumping, skipping, posture, sports-related skills

  • Table-top (Fine Motor) skills: pre-writing skills, handwriting, typing, coloring, painting, cutting, arts-and-crafts

  • Sensory Processing: producing appropriate responses to sensations which in turn supports behaviors, attention, executive functioning, self-regulation, emotional control, planning, and learning
